What to Expect from iPhone 15

In September 2022, Apple launched the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Right after the launch of the iPhone 14, the rumors of the iPhone 15 started coming out.

Chances are that Apple will be unveiling the iPhone 15 really soon. Even though there are quite a few more months to launch the iPhone 15, fans have been speculating and sharing rumors they come across.

According to the rumors, the iPhone 15 will have four models similar to iPhone 14. Sizes of the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Max, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are, respectively, 6.1 inches, 6.1 inches, 6.7 inches, and 6.7 inches.

Like the iPhone 14 lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro models will include extra features, some expected and some unexpected. Rumors say instead of a lightning port, the iPhone 15 models will come equipped with a USB-C port.

Fortunately for fans, Apple will finally be discarding the notch. iPhone 15 is said to come with a dynamic island.

Apple will be using Qualcomm modem chips for the iPhone 15 models, as their own chips aren’t ready yet. The base iPhone 15 models will feature the A16 chips similar to iPhone 14, while the iPhone 15 Pro models will use a faster and more efficient 3 nanometer A17 chip.

Apart from the 3-nanometer A17 chips, other noticeable features in iPhone 15 Pro models will include:

  • Titanium frames
  • Slimmer bezels
  • Minor design changes
  • Curved edges
  • Periscope lens technology (unconfirmed).

The price for iPhone 15 models is expected to stay the same. The entry-level (6.1 inches) device is expected to start at $799 and pro models start at $899.

Let’s go through this roundup of iPhone 15 and everything you can expect from this device.

iPhone 15 Design Expectations

According to the rumors, the design of the iPhone 15 is pretty similar to iPhone 14 models except for the pill and hole cutout patterns. The iPhone 15 devices will have a Dynamic Island, which has already been introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The iPhone 15 will be the standard model, while the iPhone Pro models will have higher-end features, and be more expensive than the other iPhone 15.

The size of the iPhone 15 is 6.1 inches, but some rumors also say that the size of the iPhone 15 will be 6.2 inches, not 6.1. But, it’s all speculation at this point. Another major change will be USB-C instead of the lightning port.

Unfortunately, the standard iPhone 15 models will not have the Pro Motion feature.

Fans are expecting a change in the design of the Dynamic Island with the addition of an integrated proximity sensor. As it stands now, there will be no notable change in the overall look or functionality of Dynamic Island.

iPhone 15 Color Options

According to some leaked pictures, the iPhone 15 could be available in dark pink and light blue color options. It’s not a leap as iPhone did use to come in a number of bright colors. That said, the options for black, white, and red can be available along with the standard color.

iPhone 15 Pro Exclusive Design

As mentioned above, all iPhone 15 models will have a USB-C port instead of a lightning port, but there are some exclusive design changes to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone Pro Max.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature thinner, more curved bezels than the iPhone 14 Pro models. The curves would be reduced in the iPhone 15 Pro compared to the iPhone 14 Pro.

Talking about the physical appearance of the iPhone 15, the device will look more like iPhone 14. The edges will be flatter, with an aluminum frame and a glass front and back.

Will There Be A Frosted Glass?

An unconfirmed rumor from Weibo has been saying that the iPhone 15 models will feature a frosted glass back. The feature that has been limited to the Pro models of Apple And the standard models are usually lined with a glossy black.

If this unconfirmed rumor of having frosted glass even in the standard models of the iPhone 15 is true, it’s going to be great for fans.

Case Fit

We went through some 3D print leaks of the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro models. These 3D-printed cases provide a good insight into how the iPhone 15 is different from the iPhone 14.

We discovered that the iPhone 15 Plus can fit inside an iPhone 14 Plus case. However, due to the larger camera of the iPhone 15 Pro, it seems unfit for the iPhone 14 Pro. This means that iPhone 14 models will not have the same case.

Part Leaks and Renders

Based on the leaked images of the iPhone 15, some features and rumors about the iPhone 15 models are confirmed, such as the dynamic island over the screen and the USB-C port.

The Dynamic Island will be available on all iPhone 15 models in 2023. They also show evidence that the iPhone 15 design will be similar to the iPhone 14 with some changes.

Other changes and updates that we can make out with leaked images are: The design is a little bit different with a deep curve; the titanium frame will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro models; and the display size could be bigger as compared to the iPhone 14 models.

Let’s take a look at some sides of CAD designs and renders from 9to5Mac. According to the graphics and design that are made using this technique, the display size will be slightly bigger than the previous iPhone 14.

The new iPhone 15 Plus will come with the new Dynamic Island instead of the previous notch display. With that said, a lightning port will be replaced with a USB-C port. And the outer structure of the back camera is going to be thicker as compared to the previous iPhone 14 Plus.

No Touch ID

Some rumors claim that the new iPhone models are going to bring Touch ID with the newer iPhone 15 models as an under-screen feature. But chances are they’ll continue with the Face ID.

Apple also has been working on its under-screen Face ID feature, and it may include this feature by 2025. Apple is thinking about including the Dynamic Island feature in all their devices rather than just making it exclusive to the Pro models.

USB-C

If Apple plans to sell their devices in Europe, they have to comply with EU’s new regulations. Every Apple device should have a USB-C charging port. So, Apple can either make special phones for EU or implement this change globally.

With this transition, the Mac, iPhone, and iPad will all charge using USB-C, allowing Apple customers to charge their devices with one charging standard.

USB-C Data Transfer Speeds

The iPhone 15 Pro models will have higher data transfer speeds, whereas the standard models will have the same USB 2.0 level speed.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the iPhone 15 Pro will “at least” support USB 3.2, or Thunderbolt 3. USB 2.0 will be able to transfer data at 480MB/s while the USB 3.2 will be able to transfer data at 20 GB/s.

USB-C Limitations

According to the leaker ShrimpApplePro, the USB-C accessories that are certified by the Apple Made for iPhone (MFi) program are produced by the Apple supplier Foxconn. And Foxconn manufactures many ear pods and cables with USB-C connectors. That could be limited in terms of not having fast charging and high-speed data.

Camera Updates

The iPhone 15 is also expected to surprise its users with these State of the Art Sony image sensors.

Compared to standard camera sensors, Sony’s image sensors specialize in doubling the saturation signal in each pixel. It cuts down on underexposure and overexposure. The sensor will improve the portrait images and images with strong backlights.

To build the image sensor, Sony is using a semiconductor that puts photodiodes and transistors in separate layers, allowing room for more photodiodes. Currently, there’s no information on whether all the iPhone 15 models will come equipped with these sensors or if they’d just be limited to “Pro” models.

Periscope Zoom Lens Technology for the iPhone 15 Pro Max

There are many predictions about the periscope zoom lens technology for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The periscope lens will have better zoom capabilities than the standard telephoto lens. This allows users to zoom 5x or 10x. The current Pro models are limited to 3x zoom, so 5x or 10x will be a great update.

A periscope lens reflects light using an angled mirror toward the image sensor in the camera. The shift in direction allows for a “folded” telephoto lens system that improves optical zoom capabilities without the blur that comes with digital zoom.

Samsung also uses a periscope lens technology that is capable of providing 4X to 10X optical zoom and up to 100X digital zoom. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple will boast a 6x optical zoom.

Qualcomm Modem Chips

In 2023, Apple is going to use Qualcomm’s 5G modem chips for their new iPhone 15 lineup. The modem chips offer improved AI that can process faster speeds, good coverage, stable signal, lower latency, and up to 60 percent improved power efficiency.

SIM Card Tray

Apple removed the SIM card tray with the iPhone 14 models in the United States. But this time in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, the SIM tray could be removed in some more countries, like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the UK.

Wi-Fi 6E

It is expected that Apple is going to upgrade the system with WiFi 6E. This is a feature that the fans only get in the iPhone 15 Pro models. This means that the standard iPhone models will continue to use Wi-Fi 6.

Wi-Fi 6E is far better than Wi-Fi 6. It allows you to use more bandwidth, provides faster connectivity speeds, lower latency, and good capacity to handle devices. That’s not all, it support whole home gigabit coverage, multi-gigabit connectivity for venues, and it can handle higher data streams for AR and VR experiences.

A-Series Chips

The A-Series chip feature is expected to be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro. It will help to reduce the processing performance by 10 to 15 percent and also reduce the power consumption by up to 35%.

The faster chips will be limited to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, while the iPhone 15 Plus will be equipped with the A16 chip.

RAM

The expected RAM of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be 6 GB. This is the same as what we are getting in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus devices.

Expected Pricing (Unconfirmed)

The prices of the iPhone 15 models are predicted to not be too different from the prices of the iPhone 14 models. The starting price of the iPhone 15 with the 6.1 device starts at $799, and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899.
